Remembering John Woods
1963 - 2021

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of John Woods’ passing after a heroic battle with cancer. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we are filled with gratitude for the life of our friend, co-founder, and leader.

Ending child hunger in Maine became John’s life’s work nearly two decades ago and will be his enduring legacy. Called to this mission by the simple idea that no child should grow up hungry and inspired by the belief that solutions are within reach, John’s work to end child hunger in Maine has touched countless lives and will have ripple effects for generations.

Ours, now, is to honor John’s life by carrying forward his vision of connecting every kid with the nourishment they need to reach their full potential. We invite you to share your own message of remembrance – written or video – in tribute to this giant-of-a-man who possessed the balance of boldness, optimism, and urgency required of this work.

Reflections from the Board

"Without John Woods, there wouldn’t be a Full Plates Full Potential. John was a champion of children with his big heart and generous spirit. His legacy will carry on until every child in Maine has access to nutritious meals 365 days a year."

Justin Alfond | Co-Founder, Full Plates Full Potential

“John has forever changed my own personal journey in the quest to feed the future of Maine. I no longer feel or think that I am walking this journey alone. I shall miss my friend and mentor every day.”
