School Meals Celebration Week

October 24 – 28, 2022

Join Full Plates in a week-long Celebration of School Meals in Maine! We’ll be diving into the critical value of school meals and celebrating that their long-term future has been secured through Maine’s historic School Meals for All law. See the schedule for the week below and join the celebration!

School Nutrition Staff, check out this Toolkit for Schools for ideas and resources about how to participate.

Monday: Let’s Celebrate!

To kick off School Meals Celebration Week, think about and draw your favorite school lunch!

Tuesday: Try It Tuesday

Encourage all students to try school lunch on Tuesday! School meals are for everyone and when more kids eat meals at school, it helps reduce stigma and brings in important federal funding for their school.

Wednesday: Lean into Local

School meals are an integral part of Maine’s local food systems and, more and more, the foods being served to students across the state are being sourced locally (grown or produced in Maine). How much do you know about local foods in schools? Test your knowledge with a quick quiz:

Thursday: Thankful Thursday

School nutrition professionals do so much to ensure that students have the food they need to grow, learn, and thrive. Join us in thanking these everyday heroes for always going above and beyond for Maine kids!

Friday: School Meals Matter to ME

Join a Maine social media movement! Why do school meals matter to you? Print the #SchoolMealsMatterToME sign, fill in your “because”, and post your photo holding the sign to your social media platforms. Please use the hashtag #SchoolMealsMatterToME and tag @FullPlatesFullPotential!
